Interpersonal Communication And Social Care - 1257 Words

Although communication involves interaction between people, the person you are interacting with does not always need to be physically there with you. Think about something you have seen on the television, a song you have heard on the radio today, or a story you have read in a magazine or a newspaper – the person who is communicating with you is not there, but is still communicating with you, though different methods. Within health and social care, there are many different ways that communication occurs – a large amount of this is called interpersonal communication, namely taking place between two people. This could be speaking directly to someone using your service, such as a patient, or a relative, or speaking to other colleagues, health workers and professionals. Good communication skills are vital for a number of reasons, and are vital within health and social care to ensure that: †¢ positive relationships are developed with service users, their family and friends, to ensure the needs of the person are identified and met †¢ positive relationships are developed with work colleagues and the professionals that you will come into contact with †¢ information is shared by people involved in the care of the service user †¢ information about the work carried out with the service user is reported on Key terms Interaction – communication exchange that occurs between two people.
